This was recorded by Rick KB0VBZ on its first day in space! This is a big 16 bit file, please be patient!
Sputnik can be listened to on 145.82 +- Doppler in FM, USB or CW mode. I find USB to work the best as FM is noisy and CW is chirpy.

Sputnik 40 died on 12/29/1997. It lasted a month longer than anybody predicted. We wish to thak all involved in building and launching this fun little bird!

On or about December 10, 1998 this little jewel's batteries faded and it stopped transmitting. You can download the sounds from the hyperlink above.
